Educational Seminar Details
August 8: "Application Programming Techniques That Make a Difference"
Programming techniques do make a difference. This seminar explains why
Application Developers and Database Administrators need real-world tips and
techniques to make life with DB2 easier, war-stories to learn from, and
down-to-earth analogies to unravel the complexities of designing and coding a
high-performance DB2 application.
Find out about Beth and Scott and Aunt Louise. Meet Uncle Op and the weird
cousin Arthur, and discover the humor in life with DB2.
This seminar includes application tuning techniques, SQL tips, slick ways of
deciphering EXPLAIN output, and many other gems gathered from many years of
designing, developing, and tuning DB2 systems. Also included in this one-day
seminar is a clear discussion of the DB2 "BLACK BOX"and an explanation of how
a program gets data from DB2 -information critical to understanding the impact
of various coding techniques on both on-line response time and batch runtimes.
New features available in V8 and V9 will be emphasized. Hints and tips are
given at all levels, for those who have used DB2 for years as well as those
who just met DB2. This seminar is based on DB2 for the Z/OS but those using
other platforms may find some of the information beneficial.
- Learn how DB2 thinks and how to make it think less
- Learn how programming techniques can make a difference
- Find out why some applications CRAWL and others FLY
- Discover why Stage 2 Predicates are BAD
- Joins
- Locking
- System Design and Programming Commits
- Using new features instead of programs
- Online vs Batch
- Understanding Rebind issues
- SQL Tips
- Highlighting performance topics
- Weird Stuff
- Take home tips that you can use immediately
Bonnie Baker speaks from many years of experience designing, developing and
tuning DB2 systems. She gives real-life answers to real-life problems with
DB2. Students leave "empowered" to make a difference immediately. This seminar
has been enthusiastically received throughout the world.
